A great project in the Scottish Highlands

The fundamental requirement of this dramatic glass extension in Inverness was to make the most of the spectacular views whilst also being able to withstand the extreme weather often experienced in the Scottish Highlands.

The solution was our industry leading sliding patio door the XP Glide S, the heavy duty lift and slide system glides at the slightest touch and is also designed to perform even within the most extreme weather conditions. The system itself is robust, boasting thick, strong sightlines however due to the customers wish to make the most of the views we supplied our slim-line version of the Glide S product. The benefit of the slim-line profile are much smaller sightlines which means a minimal piece of profile in between the glass meaning the views and glazed area are increased considerably. The slim-line profile is steel reinforced which means that despite having a sightline of just 48mm it’s weather ratings are not affected and it still slides effortlessly when opened.

The front elevation sliding doors span a large width of 4.3 metres with the taller of the two doors 2.4 metres high. The first floor side elevation contains an additional XP Glide S door at 3260mm wide but with a small sliding panel at just 1.1m for access out onto the balcony, meaning the fixed panel within the door set is now a large fixed picture window. The side elevation on the ground floor has the same impressive aesthetic but at a fraction of the cost as the ground floor is simply a fixed picture window that lines through perfectly with the door above.

Other features within this terrific project are the XP View two panel bi-folding door, three small fixed windows and a bespoke shaped frame which also helps flood light into the extension as the frames angle lines through perfectly with the pitch of the tiled roof. Various bespoke insulated aluminium pressings have been installed to cloak off the various structural supports in and around our various glazing products, all in the same RAL colour 8019 in our ST metallic finish which has created a cohesive complete look to the whole installation. The aluminium products all benefit from marine grade treatment and paint application which fully guarantees the powder coating of the doors, windows and pressings despite the projects close proximity to the sea.
