Latest News

When it comes to recreating that classic UK patio setup in your garden, it’s hard to beat the spectacular views and extensive opening space provided by a bespoke set of sliding doors.

A must-have investment for anyone looking to fully connect their garden with the inside of their home, taking your time browsing the different external door options before you can be an exciting process – but it can also be intimidating, especially when it comes to pricing.

Fortunately, the cost of sliding patio doors is not nearly as expensive as you might think, and they’ll almost certainly increase the value of your home in the future, assuming you invest in a set made from high-quality and durable materials.

Read on to learn more about the cost of sliding doors from the Express range, including more details on what could increase the cost of sliding patio doors, and whether or not sliding doors are the right choice for your unique home renovation project.

How much are sliding doors?

When it comes to providing a singular, upfront sliding door cost, it can be rather tricky to nail down a specific number. Every sliding door installation is different and tailored to that individual project, which naturally means that the cost of sliding patio doors will be specific to each buyer.

For example, when looking at the price of our Express sliding door range, our customers tend to pay an average of £3,750 to £5,200, depending on what sort of sliding door they’re after and the number of tracks required. Please note, however, that these are just initial price points, and they may increase depending on the complexity of your build.

What factors affect the cost of sliding doors?

As we mentioned earlier in our sliding door cost guide, the overall price of your new door set will be influenced by a variety of different factors. This tends to include the following areas:

  • Panel size
  • Number of panels
  • Frame material
  • Glazing and glass-type
  • Additional installation requirements

It goes without saying that some of these factors do have the potential to increase the cost of your sliding patio doors more than others, so please keep these in mind when settling on the style and size of sliding doors you want in your home.

Panel size

One of the benefits of sliding doors is the large sliding door panels that they can create. Impressive to look at they are also one of the biggest cost factors in determining how much your sliding doors may cost, the bigger the size of your sliding door panels, the more they’ll cost to manufacture.

Simply put, bigger sliding door panels require more framework and glass and take longer to build and install than standard-sized panes, with additional costs being added to account for the increase in materials and potentially the extra man hours required for their production and installation.

The number of panels

Sitting alongside pane size as the other major factor accounting for the total cost of sliding doors, the more panels you want in your sliding door set-up, the more it is going to cost you in terms of both manufacturing and cost.

Naturally, two-track sliding doors are usually cheaper than triple-track sliding doors. For example, our XP Slide 25 sliding doors cost from £4,600 + VAT for three panels, compared to £3,500 + VAT for two panels.

That said, a two-track setup with larger panes across a wider opening could cost you more than a triple-track system in a smaller space.

Frame Material

Going hand in hand with the size and number of door panes you choose, what frame material you want your sliding doors constructed with can also be a key determining factor in price.

Here at Express, for example, we exclusively produce sliding aluminium doors. This is because of aluminium’s durable and low-maintenance nature compared to standard uPVC and timber. In addition, aluminium is a stronger material so can offer slimmer sightlines and larger sizes, however, this also means that our sliding doors tend to cost more as a result.

Bear in mind though that cheaper materials are not always better; many uPVC door owners often find themselves spending more money on their doors down the line in the form of repairs or replacement parts.

Glazing and glass-type

An often forgotten part of the sliding door buying process, it’s essential that you put the right amount of time into considering what sort of glazing and glass you want for your door panels.

With an Express sliding door, you get double-glazing as standard for improved insulation and noise reduction, but we also offer three glazing types for you to choose from – our Advanced Glazing, solar control glass, and shield glass.

Our Advanced Glazing comes as standard on all of our windowed products and uses a unique coating to keep heat reflected inside for stable temperatures. However, our solar control glass allows for better control of this on larger windows, providing that perfect light and heat balance.

Finally, our shield glass offers improved noise reduction properties and UV light protection to prevent colour fading, alongside being smash and shatter resistant.

Additional installation requirements

Last, but not least, if your build does require additional installation requirements to complete besides installing your doors, such work can increase the prices of your doors overall.

This tends not to be the case for the vast majority of our sliding door installations. However, sliding doors being installed above ground floor or with limited access, for example, will naturally require more work in order to achieve a safe installation.

Are sliding doors right for me?

And there you have it, that’s everything you need to consider when it comes to calculating sliding door costs. Hopefully, you should now have a much better idea of whether or not a new set of sliding doors is within your budget, assuming sliding doors are the door option you’ve settled on.

Because as beautiful and functional as sliding doors are, they’re not always the best choice for every home. In fact, if you’re looking for a more contemporary set-up, then you might want to consider a set of bi-fold doors instead.

Growing in popularity, bi-fold doors offer all the same benefits as sliding doors but with a distinctly unique opening style that can really enhance a modern aesthetic.
