Like many of our customers these homeowners sought to extend their home driven by the desire to create a new open plan kitchen, living and dining area. Increased natural light was fundamental to their plans as the existing house walls were taken down and the downstairs footprint greatly increased. The winning combination of sliding doors and skylights was already decided following online research, but the customers visited our Leeds showroom to explore our full range of products in detail to choose the perfect products for their project.
This stone-built town house townhouse now benefits from a ground floor wrap around extension. The flat roof houses two large skylights with the front elevation dominated by a twin track XP Glide S sliding door complete with electronically operated integral blinds.
The rear of the elevation is dominated by a huge sliding door. The homeowners wanted to be able to screen off the glazing for privacy so chose our lift and slide door the XP Glide S because of its ability to house electronically operated integral blinds. The twin track sliding door boasts just a 40mm sightline, while the lift and slide mechanism ensures that the sliding door panel can be effortlessly and smoothly slide to one side. The lift and slide mechanism also means that the door can be locked in any position including slightly open to allow ventilation into the kitchen space. Lift and slide doors like our XP Glide S & XP Infinite are perfect for larger openings and projects in heavily weathered locations but the twin track systems do allow for a slender transom. The reinforced slim-line transom allows all the benefits of a heavy duty lift and slide door but with slim sightlines allowing for panoramic views out to the garden and masses of natural light into the home.
We offer an extensive range of sliding doors the benefits of which can be explored in this video.
These homeowners chose our XP Glide S lift and slide doors because of some of the benefits outlined above. Another benefit to our lift and slide doors is that twin track systems can house electric integral blinds. Integral blinds are more commonly used in our bi-folding doors but are available with our lift and slide twin track doors, which means blinds that never need cleaning can be operated at the touch of a button providing a clean and contemporary way to screen off your huge glass doors.
Two huge XP Sky View rooflights sit above the kitchen island and dining area. A popular choice in terraced townhouses the dining skylight runs back towards the existing house adjacent with the neighbour’s property acting as a roof window that ensures the swathes of natural light is not limited to the space benefiting from floor to ceiling doors. The second rooflight sits almost directly above our sliding doors, which is a key to design to the beautiful new kitchen area and a combination that we see regularly as people create their picture-perfect open plan kitchen space.
Increased space and light are a common driver for our products, this project shows that by extending your home and removing the existing house walls you can create your dream open plan setting. Here the stunning new space blends the living, dining, and kitchen areas together whilst creating a clear link out to the garden. The rooflights, floor to ceiling doors with a slim 40mm sightline pours natural light into the home that can be controlled at the touch of a button with the sliding doors integral blinds. An immaculately completed extension to this stone-built townhouse that looks classically contemporary inside and out.
If you’re looking to create a light filled open plan setting like this one then we highly recommend a visit to any of our showrooms to see how our impressive range of products could transform your home.
